Add the bell peppers and onions, to the skillet, and saut until softened, about 3 minutes. Brown well, about 3 minutes per side, and remove them to a plate. Lightly roll the chops in flour, shake off the excess, and slip them into the pan. If you want to go to a great "family style" restaurant in East Tennessee, The Farmer's Daughter in Chuckey, TN is head and shoulders above Paula Deen's Family Kitchen. Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Bottom line - the little bit of food I ate was pretty good but I definitely will not be back. And the atmosphere - whew, very loud! We couldn't even talk to each other at our table because it was so overwhelmingly loud. It's definitely not hurting their business or bottom line! I also agree with other reviewers that the amount of food that is thrown always is absolutely a disgrace. I understand this policy but it was a little piece of dessert for a little girl that didn't feel well! We have the same type of restaurant in my hometown and they always let us take our desserts. I swear Michael can smell a pork chop from a mile away Today I'm makin' a Low Country Smothered Pork Chop recipe with peppers and onions. I asked if we could at least take her dessert with us (we paid for a whole meal that wasn't eaten) and the waitress curtly informed me that absolutely no take-outs were allowed. My daughter wasn't feeling well and wasn't able to eat anything. I tried a little of the peach cobbler and it was almost sickeningly sweet. I could totally picture the Deen family sitting down to. I was pretty disappointed about not being able to eat anything else and the dessert selections are not much better. The combination of tender pork chops, sauteed vegetables, and the smothered sauce was really delicious. The chicken and beans were very good but nothing exceptional. The only two things I could eat at all were the fried chicken and green beans (after I tried to de-butter them as best I could!). ![]() ![]() When the oil is nice and hot, lay the pork chops in the pan in a single layer and fry for 3 minutes on each. It's Paula Deen though, right? Anyway, you have no options as to how your selections are prepared and those choices are already quite limited. Heat a large saute pan or cast iron skillet over medium heat and coat with the oil. I am allergic to dairy and 90% of our food was slathered in butter. If you have any type of food allergies, this is not the place for you. A friend had told me that this was a "family style" restaurant where everyone at the table shares the same food selections. First of all, I should have known better than to eat at this restaurant.
